English-speaking therapist in Provence and online across France
For expats, returning expats and anyone living between two homes.
Book a free 20-minute callI'm Rosalie, a French-American somatic therapist (psychopraticienne) in Mouriès, in the Alpilles, working online in English across France. If you're looking for an English speaking therapist in Provence, an expat therapist in France, or online therapy in English anywhere in France, you're in the right place.
Both are fine here.
California, ten years. Provence, now.
Something most therapists wouldn't put on their website
I'm a returning expat myself. I lived in California for ten years and came back to France in the middle of my divorce. I left a home, a dog, a family-in-law, friends, the ocean, and a version of myself I had built over there.
Some evenings, when it's cold and raining, the missing comes back all at once. My belly is usually the first to know: I live with IBS, and every big change goes straight to my gut.
So when you tell me that you feel lost between two countries, I won't just nod. I know that place from the inside, and I work from it.
Who I work with
Moving country is one of the biggest losses we rarely call a loss. I support adults through:
Expat life in France
The loneliness, the paperwork, the culture shock, feeling like a child again in a new language.
Returning home after years abroad
Reverse culture shock, friends who moved on, the strange grief of coming back to a place that no longer fits.
Binational couples
Living in your partner's country, carrying two cultures, two families, two ways of loving.
Separation and divorce abroad
When your marriage ends far from home and you ask yourself who you are without them, and where you belong now.
Grief far from home
Losing a parent an ocean away, missing the funeral, grieving alone. Also ambiguous grief, for someone still alive but no longer there.
Coming out and identity
A late coming out, a queer life in rural France, questions about who you are after a big change. I'm queer myself, and this is an LGBTQIA+ affirming space for women, men and non-binary people.
Moving country is one of the biggest losses we rarely call a loss.
Mouriès, Alpilles, ProvenceI start with the body
I start with the body, because that's where transitions land first: a knot in your stomach, shoulders up to your ears, sleepless nights. We slow down and listen to what's happening inside.
My work combines somatic therapy, breathwork, mindfulness, and parts work inspired by Internal Family Systems (IFS). I don't follow a fixed protocol.
The part of you that keeps everything under control and the part that just wants to go home are both welcome.
I'm bicultural and fully bilingual, so you can switch to French whenever a word fits better.
I trained in integrative psychology in California (B.A., National University) and I'm a psychopraticienne, trained with the CRESP in France.
What a session looks like
Arrive
We begin with a few minutes to arrive, a breath, a sense of where you are today.
Bring what's there
A situation, a feeling, a memory, or simply "I don't know what's wrong". I'll guide you to notice sensations, and sometimes invite you to speak with a part of you.
Leave lighter
Nothing is forced, and you never have to tell the whole story at once. Many people leave a first session feeling lighter, or simply less alone with it.
Simple, transparent fees
Free discovery call: 20 minutes on video, to see if we're a good fit.
First session
Enough time to lay out the whole story.
"Landing & Letting Go"
For one specific transition: arriving, returning, separating, grieving far from home. Payable in two instalments.
Individual session
Online or in person in Mouriès.
The Identity & Grief Circle
Every Sunday, 7pm Paris time, online
A small English-speaking online group, a gentle way to start.
Online, or in person in Mouriès
Most of my English-speaking clients work with me online, from Paris, Aix-en-Provence, Montpellier, Nice or a small village. Somatic work happens beautifully on video: you're in your own space, and we can still breathe together.
Online across France
Fully in English, by video, from wherever you live.
In person in Mouriès (13890)
If you live in Provence, you can also come to my practice in Mouriès, in the Alpilles, near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Arles and Salon.
Frequently asked questions
Is therapy with you covered by French health insurance?
No, the Sécurité sociale doesn't cover it. Some mutuelles reimburse part of it under "médecines douces", so check your contract. You get an invoice for every session.
What's the difference between a somatic therapist and other kinds of therapy?
Talk therapy mostly works with thoughts and words. Somatic therapy includes the body too: what you feel, where you hold it, how your breath changes. We still talk, but we also listen to what the body knows first.
I'm not sure what I'm going through. Is that okay?
Yes. Many people arrive saying "I just don't feel like myself here". You don't need a name for it, or to wait until things are really bad.
Do you work with couples?
My work is one-to-one. In a binational relationship, I can support you with your side of it: the culture gap, the homesickness, where to live.
Can I do sessions in English even though I live in France?
Of course. Sessions are fully in English, online from anywhere in France, or in person in Mouriès.
What if I'm in crisis?
I'm not an emergency service. If you're in danger or thinking of suicide, call 3114 (24/7) or 112. SOS Help runs an English-speaking line on 01 46 21 46 46.
Let's talk
You don't have to figure this out alone, in a language that isn't quite yours, in a home that doesn't feel like home yet. The first step is a free 20-minute call, simply to see if working together feels right.
